Special Projects are a distinctive element of the Art Therapy Department. They offer students additional opportunity to work with clients outside of their internship site. Students learn to create client-specific directives, encourage community partnership and asses project objectives and results.
As the academic year came to an end, MPS Art Therapy students facilitated a project with a group visiting from the Catherine McCauley High School after-school program for girls.
MPS students continue to volunteer for Special Projects throughout the summer. A new Special Project at New York Presbyterian Hospital has been added to this summer’s program. Students and Val Sereno facilitated a doll making workshop for parents of hospitalized children.
The following week, 8th grade students from I.S. 145 came to The MPS Art Therapy Department for a Special Project in mask making.
Summer Special Projects continue through August, with Fall Special Projects beginning at the start of the semester.
