Bookbinding workshop for MPS students

As part of Orientation Week, 1st- and 2nd- year MPS students participated in a fun, free materials workshop in the department studio on Friday, 9.9.11.  Guest Instructor Jimmy Sheehan, a painter, graphic designer, and SVA faculty member, led nine students through the process of binding hardcover books.

Over the course of the three-hour workshop, participants glued pages along the spine to create the book contents, crafted hardcovers using binder’s board and book cloth and assembled their final products. These handmade books have pages made of drawing paper, which makes them good journals or sketchbooks.
