¡Bienvenidos a Costa Rica!

The 2011 Art Therapy in Costa Rica program is officially underway!  Six MPS Art Therapy students arrived in Liberia on Sunday, May 22, for a three-week Multicultural Issues and Internship/Supervision course facilitated by Liz Dellicarpini (SVA faculty/Internship Coordinator).   MPS students will be conducting daily clinical art therapy internship work in the special education classrooms of La Victoria Elementary School.  Students and program staff are staying with host families living near the school.

Sunday afternoon was devoted to a tour of Liberia; we met with host families, visited the elementary school, and walked around the town.

On Monday, students received a Program Orientation with Sylvia Gron, Director of ASART, a community-based non-profit organization in Costa Rica that provides free art classes and programming to children of low-income families in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.  ASART has been instrumental in setting up this program with SVA.  In the afternoon, students and staff attended a Spanish language class, which will continue through the first week.

The program runs May 22 – June 10, 2011.
