Multicultural Issues: Wreaths

Multicultural Issues, taught by Val Sereno, ATR-BC, LCAT, is a required class for second-year students in the MPS Art Therapy program.  This class aims to increase students’ awareness of how their cultural backgrounds and biases affect their worldviews and clinical work.

In the pictured project, students used a wide range of organic materials to create wreaths that reflected their personal cultural backgrounds. Wreaths can be created as part of an honoring ceremony for various populations. They can reflect on living and dying, cultural, community and family strengths, and the ability to share talents and skills.
